Monster Energy Australia has confirmed that World Rally star Ken Block will bring his Gymkhana World Tour to Melbourne’s Calder Park for a one-off Australian show on Saturday, September 3.

Block, who will also contest the Australian round of the World Rally Championship a week after his Calder Gymkhana, will bring to life his world-renowned Gymkhana video clips.

He will be joined at Calder by a host of other stars and their cars.

Tickets to the event will be free, but limited to a yet-to-be-determined amount. Willing patrons will need to sign up and go into a ballot. Specific details on how to secure tickets to Block’s Gymkhana World Tour will be released in the coming weeks.

The Ford Fiesta driver says he is excited to be visiting Australia for the first time.

“I’m stoked to be coming down to Australia for one of the stops of my Gymkhana World Tour,” Block said.

“We’re coming down and doing a ton of different things during my visit, and, I’m not just there for the World Tour. I’m also racing in WRC Australia the following week. I can’t wait. it’s going to be a very fun couple of weeks for me.

“One of the great things about the Gymkhana World Tour down in Australia is that it’s free to the public, so everyone can come. I hope everybody that wants to see it can make it out because it’s going be amazing.

“Watching the gymkhana car slide around live in-person is much better than seeing it in video, so I hope everyone that is interested in seeing this can make it out.”

In confirming the Australian leg of Ken Block’s Gymkhana World Tour, Monster Energy Australasian Manager Adrian Hunter said that Block would be joined by some of Australia’s leading motorsport athletes.

“The rumour of Ken Block coming down under has been circulating for a while and Monster Energy Australia are very excited to officially announce that Ken Block’s Gymkhana World Tour will be coming to Melbourne,” Hunter confirmed.

“This project has been close to a year in the making and we delighted to not only have Ken coming to Australia, but to also be putting on a live event for the public. Part of Monster Energy’s mantra is to look after our athletes, and give back to our consumers, so what better way to do that, than by putting on an event like this.

“We will be pulling out all stops on this event which will also include Monster Energy athletes such as Jamie Whincup, Shane Van Gisbergen, Andrew Thompson, Matt Mingay, Shane Tucker and the Monster Energy Showtime FMX Freestyle team.”

To celebrate Ken’s Gymkhana World Tour, Monster Energy and Ford are giving Australian fans the chance to win a $75,000 Ford voucher.

To enter, simply purchase a Monster Energy Original 500ml or four pack from any retail outlet in Australia, go towww.monsterenergy.com and enter the last 5 digits of the barcode. Every entry goes into the Daily Prize Draw to win a DC Shoe Voucher and DC/Monster t-shirt.

Fans set to go head-to-head in an all-star V8 challenge.

V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup and Fujitsu Series star Andrew Thompson have thrown their weight behind a new charity event on the Gold Coast, which is set to see 100% of all proceeds donated to the bid4Jase campaign.

On 27th May, Racecentre will host its inaugural charity event for this year´s beneficiary Jason Richards. The event will see a mix of V8 Drivers going head-to-head against the public on Australia´s most advanced racing simulators.

Each session time will last approx 35 minutes, during which fans will not only get to meet their V8 hero but also race against them in Australia´s best simulation centre.

The fastest 8 members of the public qualify for a showdown and the winner of this event claims a spot in the final race with all the V8 stars on the day.

"The format is fantastic" says Jamie Whincup, who is clearly looking forward to the event.

Jason Richards says “I’m so overwhelmed by the support... so incredible and it’s made me more determined than ever to beat the cancer and get myself back racing full time. Thanks to absolutely everyone for their support.”

TUCKER MOVES UP TO 4th IN ANDRA PRO SERIES POINTS!
by MONSTERENERGY on

Due to wet conditions Round Three of the 2010/2011 ANDRA Pro Series Pro Stock Championship was cancelled last Saturday after one qualifying session was completed.

After a meeting between senior officials of ANDRA and Sydney Dragway, and the Pro Stock teams present for the event, Sydney Dragway announced they were willing to stage the round at their next scheduled competition event on April 8th and 9th.

ANDRA had requested this approach because Pro Stock had completed just one round of their current series in September 2010.

Under ANDRA regulations, ANDRA Pro Series points are allocated where at least one full round of qualifying is completed. After consultation with the National Control Council, it has been confirmed that points will be allocated for the March round on that basis, and the April round will be a fresh round.

ANDRA CEO Tony Thornton said this was a very positive move from the new management team at Sydney Dragway. “After the rainout budgets are understandably tight and the gesture by the management and the teams is a great gesture.” he said. “The Drag Racing Australia Group who operates the Pro Series is in a similar position but they have agreed to provide the additional television coverage in April.”

Event sponsor AEROFLOW Performance Products are supportive of the decision.
